One random weekend, while I was out with a couple of friends, we chanced upon the upstairs area of Magnificent Fish & Chips.

Last Sunday, a friend decided to head down to KL to snap pictures of the various graffiti that was plastered around town. Little did I know the trip would lead me to places and sights that I’ve only read about in the papers, some less pleasant than others.

About a couple of weeks ago I decided to check out Sepang Gold Coast after hearing so much talk about it. For the uninitiated, Sepang Gold Coast is a multi-billion dollar development in the Bagan Lalang area. It’s about a 1 1/2 hours drive away from KL city, close to the Sepang F1 circuit.

It’s been over a year since I’ve been able to sit back, and reflect over the past year or so. I’ve moved back to Malaysia, and finally found a career that I’ve actually stuck with for nearly two years! In the past, I’ve been known to jump industries without satiating my search for a dream job. Anyhow, after settling down, I’ve also had a chance to finally rediscover my passion for photography.
Ah, photography. Where did it all begin?
I’ve always been interested in photography. My very first digital camera, a Canon Powershot SD100 was bought while I was in college. A 3.2 megapixel compact camera, it served me well. In fact it’s still alive and working!
It’s now part of my little sister’s property, and she still takes pretty good pictures with that piece of equipment. A true testament to the statement: “A high megapixel count doesn’t always equate to better image quality.”
Eventually I upgraded, as I had started a career in the travel industry and wanted to ensure the many different destinations were captured flawlessly. This time around I was drawn to Sony compact cameras as they not only looked sleek, they took fantastic, vibrant images. Being a sucker for gimmicks, I bought the Sony with the touchscreen LCD, an 8.1 megapixel behemoth! I landed myself a Sony DSC-N1.

It was quite large and chunky (compared to the other slim compacts) but the pictures it took were a far cry from what I used to take, and the touchscreen was w-a-a-a-y fun!
Unfortunately, during a trip to London, I had carelessly left my camera in my coat jacket while trying on another jacket. It was nabbed. Blah.
I had only used the camera for about 3 months. And then it was time to get a replacement. This time I took the opportunity to get a smaller compact, the Sony DSC-T100.

Although the camera was significantly smaller, the outdoor pictures it took were fantastic!
During this time, a lot of things were changing. Camera equipment were getting cheaper. Entry-level DSLRs were being priced lower and lower. Yet, I didn’t dare take the jump. Not until I went with a few friends on a shoot. I was blown away by the low-light capabilities of a DSLR, the low-light pictures I took were more similar to impressionist paintings. The sharpness of the pictures taken on a DSLR were amazing.
I was sold.
After doing vigorous research, I purchased the Sony A300.

Many condemned Sony, and advised me that those who took photography seriously would only consider either a Nikon or a Canon. So far, I’ve not been disappointed. Yes, there are obvious limitations, but I’d prefer to be the underdog anyway. Working with a handicap makes you strive even harder.
Well, that’s led me to present.
I’ve been busy working on pre-wedding shoots for a close friend, as well as the slideshow that comes with it.
In two weeks I will be photographing their wedding! Which also means I’m covering my very first wedding in two weeks! I’m psyched and terrified at the same time. It’s an honor but it comes with great responsibility. But to see the couple in love and to be part of their special day is so rewarding.
To start it off, I’m posting a picture of their wedding bands. More photos to come soon!
